Relationship counsellor Muhammed Hussain Acquah has advised couples to confront the underlying challenges in their marriages rather than create an outward appearance that everything is fine when serious issues remain unresolved.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s family, relationship and lifestyle programme Nyansapɔ Fie, hosted by Akosua Gyamfua, Muhammed Hussain Acquah explained that pretence in marriage can take the form of deliberately portraying an image of happiness and success despite difficulties beneath the surface.
According to him, couples facing such challenges must be willing to communicate openly, identify the root causes of their problems and work together towards practical solutions.
He noted that people may pretend in their relationships for several reasons, including the desire for social approval, low self-confidence, fear of shame or embarrassment, and pressure from society.
Muhammed Hussain Acquah stressed that addressing such situations requires understanding rather than public condemnation.
He advised individuals who notice a friend, relative or acquaintance pretending that all is well in their marriage to approach the person privately, speak gently with them and offer appropriate guidance.
He cautioned against publicly accusing, exposing or embarrassing people over difficulties in their marriages, stressing that sensitive relationship matters should be handled with care, understanding and respect.
He said creating the appearance of a perfect marriage without addressing the real problems only allows unresolved issues to persist and potentially worsen over time.
