The Ga Traditional Council has expressed support for the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, following public backlash over comments she made regarding staff postings to northern Ghana.
In a statement, the Council said although the minister’s remarks had generated concern and disappointment among some members of the public, particularly people from the Northern Regions, it did not believe the comments were intended to insult or undermine anyone.
The Council noted that public officials often operate in fast-paced and demanding environments where statements may not always fully reflect their intended meaning. According to the statement, the minister’s remarks appeared to be “an unfortunate lapse in communication rather than a deliberate expression of malice or disrespect”.
The traditional authority also commended Ms Ocloo, who is the Member of Parliament for Shai Osudoku, for publicly clarifying her comments and expressing remorse over the misunderstanding and concerns caused.
The Council further expressed regret to individuals who may have felt offended, hurt or marginalised by the comments, stressing that Ghana’s strength lies in its unity in diversity.
It added that every region of the country remains equally valuable and indispensable to national development and progress.
The Ga Traditional Council appealed to the public, opinion leaders and stakeholders to approach the matter with understanding, forgiveness and a spirit of reconciliation.
According to the Council, isolated slips in expression should not overshadow years of public service and commitment to national development.
“At this critical moment in Ghana’s development, we encourage all leaders and citizens to remain focused on the collective responsibility of building a more inclusive, united and prosperous country where every Ghanaian, regardless of region or background, feels respected, valued and represented,” the statement said.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, harmony, mutual respect and constructive dialogue among all Ghanaians.
