Kpandai chiefs oppose parliamentary election rerun, appeal to President Mahama to uphold peace

Kpandai chiefs oppose parliamentary election rerun, appeal to President Mahama to uphold peace

Traditional leaders in the Kpandai Constituency have firmly opposed any proposed rerun of parliamentary elections, urging President John Dramani Mahama to intervene to preserve peace and stability.

At a press conference on Monday, the chiefs expressed concern over what they described as attempts by certain groups to create tension and undermine the will of the people. They maintained that the electoral process in the constituency was transparent, peaceful, and reflective of voters’ choice.

“We, the chiefs of Kpandai State, stand collectively to affirm that there should be no rerun in the Kpandai Constituency,” the statement read. “The people have voted, and their decision must be respected. We therefore appeal to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and ensure that justice and peace prevail.”

The traditional authorities further called on political actors and supporters to exercise restraint and resolve grievances through lawful and peaceful channels, rather than actions that could destabilize the area.

The chiefs reiterated their readiness to work with government, security agencies, and community stakeholders to safeguard peace in the constituency, particularly as national tensions rise over electoral disputes.

The press conference was attended by opinion leaders, elders, and members of the media, all of whom echoed the call for calm and respect for the election outcome.

Concluding their statement, the chiefs reaffirmed their commitment to unity and development, stressing that Kpandai must not be drawn into avoidable conflict over political disagreements.
