The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has arrested some suspected illegal miners at Subin Akwaboaso in the Central Region following an enforcement operation that encountered resistance from a group of individuals.

The arrests were made on Sunday afternoon, November 1, 2026, during an operation involving NAIMOS personnel and members of the Special Boat Squadron (SBS).

According to a statement issued by NAIMOS on Monday, November 2, the enforcement team faced considerable resistance from some individuals who allegedly wielded cutlasses, firearms and other offensive weapons, posing a threat to personnel and others at the scene.

The statement said the enforcement team, under the direction of the Director of Operations, Colonel K. S. Appiah, exercised maximum restraint and took decisive measures to prevent the situation from escalating.

NAIMOS warned that any attempt to obstruct lawful enforcement operations would be treated as a serious concern, adding that individuals suspected of attacking its personnel or interfering with its operations would be referred to the relevant authorities for further action.

The Secretariat also assured the public that it would continue to operate within the law while applying necessary and proportionate measures to protect its personnel, accompanying journalists and members of the public.

It urged community leaders and residents to support its operations and channel any concerns through the appropriate avenues.

NAIMOS further reaffirmed its commitment to the fight against illegal mining, saying it would continue collaborating with security agencies, regulatory institutions and local communities, with support from the government and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, to protect the environment and consolidate gains made in the fight against illegal mining.
