Jonathan A. Aviisah, an aspiring National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency chairman for Ashaiman, has pledged to prioritise the development of the constituency and improve the welfare of party supporters if elected.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s EBAANOSEN programme, hosted by Ohene Kinnah, Mr. Aviisah expressed concern that Ashaiman had not received the level of attention he believes it deserves, despite its significant contribution to the NDC’s electoral success.
He described Ashaiman as a stronghold of the party, arguing that the constituency’s electoral support should translate into greater recognition and development opportunities for its residents.
According to him, his immediate priority is to ensure that Ashaiman benefits from the party’s position in government before turning his attention to broader regional and national issues.
Mr. Aviisah is contesting the NDC constituency chairmanship election scheduled for October 24, where he will appear as candidate number three.
He described his candidacy as an opportunity to begin a new chapter for Ashaiman, insisting that political parties must not take their supporters’ contributions for granted after winning elections.
The aspiring chairman also highlighted the need for competent and experienced individuals to be given opportunities to contribute to governance, arguing that capable people are sometimes overlooked by political parties.
Drawing on his professional training and experience as an advocate, he expressed confidence in his ability to provide effective leadership, strengthen grassroots mobilisation and improve the party’s electoral performance in the constituency.
While acknowledging the role of the Member of Parliament in legislative affairs, Mr. Aviisah stressed the importance of having a capable and well-informed constituency chairman who could complement the work of elected representatives and advance the interests of the people.
On matters of justice, he called for patience and due process in the handling of legal cases, cautioning political actors against rushing prosecutions that could ultimately end in acquittals or discharges.
He maintained that the pursuit of justice must take precedence over political interests and urged stakeholders to ensure that their actions serve the interests of the state rather than merely energising their political supporters.
Mr. Aviisah said his decision to contest the chairmanship was driven by his conviction that he could contribute meaningfully to Ashaiman’s development, strengthen the party’s grassroots structures and ensure that the constituency receives the attention he believes it deserves.
