The incoming National Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joshua Sikanate, has called for renewed and intensified efforts by both state security agencies and the party’s leadership to unravel the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Tema West Women’s Organizer, Paulina Lamisi.
Speaking on the matter, Sikanate expressed deep frustration over the lack of progress in the case, noting that Lamisi disappeared on June 12, 2024, at the height of the election campaign season and has not been seen since.
According to him, the continued absence of answers has left both her family and the party in a state of anguish and uncertainty.
In a passionate appeal, Sikanate drew comparisons to other unresolved high-profile cases in Ghana, including the 2016 murder of former Abuakwa North MP, J.B. Danquah-Adu, arguing that the nation continues to struggle with bringing closure to incidents involving prominent public figures.
Questioning the effectiveness of the country’s investigative institutions, he lamented the inability of security agencies to account for the whereabouts of a citizen who vanished without a trace.
“It’s quite sickening because if we have the IGP at our fingertips, we have the CID at our doorsteps, and we cannot use these state institutions to get closure for the family and the country as a whole, then it is a shame on all of us,” he stated.
Sikanate warned that the prolonged silence and lack of tangible developments risk damaging public confidence and creating growing frustration among party supporters.
He subsequently called on the NDC’s national leadership to take a more active role in seeking answers, specifically urging former President John Dramani Mahama, General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, and National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia to use every legitimate avenue available to support efforts aimed at finding Lamisi.
Describing her as a key figure in the party’s grassroots mobilization efforts, Sikanate credited Lamisi with playing a pivotal role in the NDC’s electoral successes in Tema West.
“This is a woman we cherish as a party. She contributed immensely to our success. Without Lamisi, we would not have won the 2020 parliamentary election in Tema West. We must do everything within our power and within the law to ensure that she is found,” he said.
As the mystery surrounding her disappearance remains unresolved, pressure continues to mount on security agencies to provide answers and deliver justice for a family, a community, and a political party still searching for closure.
