Former NDC National Organiser Joshua Hamidu Akamba has shared the inside story of how he revitalised the party during its toughest years in opposition, revealing the challenges of mobilising a disheartened base.
Speaking to Bobie Ansah on Accra FM, Akamba described travelling across the country to reconnect with party members who felt neglected.
“I was on the road constantly, visiting regions, engaging supporters, making sure the party didn’t just fade away. That was my job, and I loved it,” he said.
He expressed dismay that some now in government have forgotten the very people who worked tirelessly during opposition.
“Some appointees have distanced themselves from the grassroots. That’s unacceptable,” he said.
“I will name and shame those who have neglected the people who built this party.”
Akamba recounted an incident that underscores the problem.
A sponsor who arrived in Ghana seeking to meet a minister was left waiting for hours and eventually had to see a deputy instead.
“If we treat our supporters and allies like that, we risk weakening the party and losing trust,” he said.
