Two suspected armed robbers have been shot dead following a confrontation with police in Tema, after allegedly attacking a mobile money (MoMo) vendor at Community Five.

Reports indicate that the suspects targeted the vendor and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash after shooting him in the leg. An eyewitness is said to have raised an alarm, prompting a swift response from the Ghana Police Service.

A team from the Tema Harbour Division subsequently tracked the suspects to Community Ten. The pursuit ended near Smart Hotel, where the suspects reportedly engaged the police in a shootout.

According to police sources, officers returned fire in self-defense, resulting in the death of the two suspects. No police casualties were recorded during the operation.

The bodies have since been deposited at a nearby morgue, while investigations continue to establish whether the suspects are connected to other robbery incidents in the Tema area.

Residents have commended the police for their rapid response but have also expressed concern over the increasing attacks on mobile money vendors. Authorities have assured the public of intensified patrols and enhanced security measures, particularly in high-risk areas.

The police are appealing to the public to provide any information that could assist with ongoing investigations.
