The Government of Ghana has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of the Overlord of Dagbon, His Majesty Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II.
In a statement issued by the Presidency Communications on Monday, July 13, 2026, President John Dramani Mahama, on behalf of the government, extended his deepest condolences to the Royal Family, the people of Dagbon, and the entire nation during what it described as a period of immense grief.
The statement paid tribute to the late Yaa Naa, describing him as a distinguished traditional ruler whose reign brought healing, reconciliation, and lasting peace to Dagbon after years of conflict. It noted that his unwavering commitment to unity, stability, and the welfare of his people created an enabling environment for development and strengthened the partnership between traditional authorities and the government.
Government further praised the late monarch’s life of dedicated service, highlighting his wisdom, leadership, and invaluable contributions to national peace and development.
The statement concluded by honouring the legacy of Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II and expressed the hope that his example would continue to inspire future generations, while praying for his soul to rest in perfect peace.
