The Government of Ghana has announced that a state funeral will be held in honour of the late Ambassador James Victor Gbeho in recognition of his distinguished service to the nation and the international community.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency Communications Office on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the funeral will take place at the forecourt of the State House on Friday, July 31, 2026, in collaboration with the Gbeho family and related families.
The government described Ambassador Gbeho as one of Ghana’s most distinguished statesmen, whose diplomatic career spanned several decades. He rose through the ranks of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, serving successively as Chief Director, Deputy Minister, and ultimately Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Beyond his service to Ghana, Ambassador Gbeho also held key international positions, including Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in Somalia. He later served as President of the ECOWAS Commission, where he played a significant role in advancing regional integration and peace efforts in West Africa.
The government extended its deepest condolences to the Gbeho family, acknowledging the late diplomat’s immense contributions to Ghana and the international community.
