Fire ravages Kwadaso wood market in Kumasi

Fire Destroys About 10 Shops At Tamale Aboabo Market
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A catastrophic fire tore through the Kwadaso wood market in Kumasi during the early hours of Saturday, January 4, 2025, causing widespread destruction and leaving traders and residents reeling from the devastating losses.

Eyewitnesses recounted the rapid spread of the blaze, which engulfed stacks of timber, sawmills, and other valuable property, obliterating the livelihoods of many. Despite a swift and heroic response by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the flames caused extensive damage before being brought under control, preventing further spread to neighboring areas.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, leaving the community anxious for answers. This incident follows closely on the heels of a major blaze at the Kantamanto Market in Accra, sparking concerns over fire safety in Ghana’s densely populated commercial hubs.

Authorities are now urging stricter fire safety measures in marketplaces as affected traders grapple with the daunting task of rebuilding their lives and businesses.
