National Security operatives have arrested Ateh Larweteh, a former convict and caretaker of a residential property at Tema Community 5 Railway Extension, following an alleged attempt to break into the building after it had been sealed by security personnel.

Larweteh, a former convict who has previously served prison sentences in connection with various criminal offences, was arrested on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at a hideout in Tema Community 1 Site 5, according to security sources familiar with the operation.

His arrest followed an alleged attempt to re-enter the property after National Security operatives had secured and locked the premises following an earlier operation.

Sources say Larweteh allegedly returned to the building and used acid and a hacksaw to break the padlock placed on the property by the security operatives.

The sources further allege that the padlock had been tampered with on a previous occasion, making the latest incident the second reported attempt to gain access to the sealed premises.

Security operatives subsequently traced Larweteh to his reported hideout at Community 1 Site 5, where he was arrested.

Sources familiar with the interrogation further indicate that Larweteh admitted breaking into the property.

The latest development has also raised fresh security concerns following reports that Larweteh allegedly issued threats against the owner of the property, Mr. Afram, after the reported break-in.

Mr. Afram, who is said to be based abroad, is reportedly the owner of the property and had entrusted its management to Larweteh as caretaker through his younger brother.

The property had earlier attracted the attention of security authorities following complaints from residents over alleged prostitution and suspected illicit activities taking place at the facility.

Several women, including foreign nationals believed to be Nigerians, were reportedly found occupying the premises during the earlier operation.

Residents had complained about activities at the property, describing them as a source of concern within the residential community.

Larweteh is also reportedly standing trial before the Tema High Court in a separate case involving an alleged assault on Mr. Afram.

According to police sources, Larweteh is alleged to have orchestrated an attack on the property owner, an incident which reportedly left Mr. Afram with serious injuries.

Sources allege that individuals believed to have been hired from Ashaiman ambushed Mr. Afram, restrained him with handcuffs and subjected him to physical assault.

The allegations form part of a separate legal matter currently before the court.

Following his latest arrest, Larweteh was reportedly handed over to the Police National Operations Directorate, which has commenced legal processes in connection with the alleged break-in and related complaints.

However, despite the ongoing police process, there are reports that some individuals claiming to be government officials and persons connected to the national security establishment have been attempting to intervene in the matter.

Sources allege that these individuals have been mounting pressure on the complainant to discontinue the case and secure Larweteh’s release.

Larweteh has reportedly been granted police bail and is expected to face further legal proceedings.

The latest development comes amid heightened concerns among residents of Tema Community 5, who are calling for all complaints and allegations against the suspect to be thoroughly investigated and determined through due legal process.
