Sammy Gyamfi disputes Afenyo-Markin’s claims of GoldBod losses

GOLDBOD introduces stricter rules for access to gold purchase financing through aggregators

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has rejected claims by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin that the state-owned gold trading institution has incurred losses.

According to Mr. Gyamfi, the claim is false and contradicts the findings contained in GoldBod’s audited Annual Report and Financial Statements for the year ended December 31, 2025.

In a post on X, he cited page 16 of the audited report, which he said records an operational surplus of GH¢907 million and an overall surplus of GH¢5.4 billion for the year under review.

He argued that the figures demonstrate that GoldBod was profitable rather than operating at a loss, describing the Minority Leader’s position as a “blatant lie” and questioning his credibility as Minority Leader.

“For the avoidance of doubt, this audit report was prepared and published by the Auditor-General of the Republic of Ghana,” Mr. Gyamfi stated, stressing that the figures were contained in an independently audited financial statement.

His comments come amid growing political debate over the financial performance and operations of GoldBod, with the Majority and Minority sides offering contrasting assessments of the institution’s performance.

Mr. Gyamfi has urged the public to rely on the audited financial statements in assessing GoldBod’s financial position.
