Every child deserves quality healthcare — Sheila Tanye

A Social Worker at Tema Urban Hospital, Sheila Tanye, has underscored the importance of quality healthcare for children, stressing that access to healthcare is a fundamental right that must be protected.

Speaking on Plan B FM’s Nyansapo Fie programme hosted by Akosua Gyamfua as part of activities marking International Child Protection Week, Madam Tanye noted that efforts by government to provide free maternal and antenatal healthcare services demonstrate the country’s commitment to safeguarding the health rights of children from birth.

She explained that ensuring the well-being of children begins during pregnancy, making regular antenatal visits essential for both mothers and their unborn babies.

Madam Tanye therefore encouraged pregnant women to cultivate the habit of attending antenatal and maternal healthcare services regularly to help detect and manage potential health complications early.

According to her, healthy pregnancies contribute significantly to the survival, growth, and development of children, making maternal healthcare a critical component of child protection.

She further called on families and communities to support expectant mothers and ensure that children receive the healthcare and attention they need to thrive.

Madam Tanye emphasized that protecting children’s rights extends beyond preventing abuse and neglect and includes guaranteeing access to quality healthcare and other essential social services.
