He shared a personal experience, saying, ”Last week, I saw children running around parks in Gakpo-Buipe to Tamale, which was a bombshell. It’s our duty, not just the government’s, to get our younger generation to work.”
The program aimed to enhance staff skills, transform work ethics, and propel company growth, ultimately transforming RIEPCO into a high-tech manufacturing hub driving industrial growth was held on Monday, 28 October, 2024.
Justice Otoo, Program Director for the skills upgrade program, said the program, organized by RIEPCO in collaboration with the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education Training and the Ghana Skills Development Fund, aims to address and improve current challenges in using high-tech modules. These include using CNC machinery and laser cutters, training engineering technicians in AUTOCAD, and coaching staff to become product and content influencers, among others.
”Despite the challenging times, RIEPCO has demonstrated resilience and strength, thriving for over four decades. While other companies like food and beverage producers, VALCO, and TOR have faced difficulties, RIEPCO has not only survived but also continued to support its workers. We’re proud to have provided residence for 75% of our workforce and daily sustenance, among other benefits. Our commitment to our employees and the community has been recognized by CTVET, leading to a partnership and MoU signing.”
”As a result of this collaboration, we’re training people for the future, and our partners are helping us equip them with the skills needed for the next century and beyond. Tema Technical Institute further refines their skills, ensuring they’re well-prepared for the challenges ahead, he disclosed.”
Tema Regional Chairman for the Association of Ghana Industries, Dr. Edward Akwetey, said that since industries grow and employ people to train them for the strong future of the country, he urges the participants to make good use of the opportunity.
The CEO for the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Sulemanu Koney, acknowledged RIEPCO Ltd. for taking such a bold step in building the capacity of its staff, even in these difficult economic times, as almost all companies are trying to cut costs. He therefore challenged the employees to make good use of the opportunity provided to them, as it will essentially help them in the future.
