The Ministry of Education has called on the Ghana Police Service to intensify efforts to locate, arrest, and prosecute the interdicted Bole Senior High School teacher who remains on the run following allegations of misconduct involving female students.
In a statement, the Ministry expressed concern that the suspect has not been apprehended despite the seriousness of the allegations and the public interest surrounding the case.
According to the Ministry, reports that the fugitive teacher recently granted a media interview and requested a transfer to a village school should provide investigators with useful leads to track him down. It urged the Police to deploy all available resources, including digital tracking and other investigative measures, to ensure his arrest.
The Ministry further disclosed that information available to it suggests the teacher’s actions were deliberate, contrary to claims that the incident was unintentional. It also indicated that other videos allegedly showing the teacher engaging in similar inappropriate conduct with female students have emerged, raising concerns that he abused his position to exploit vulnerable students.
The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, described the alleged misconduct as unacceptable, shameful, and inconsistent with the ethics and standards expected of members of the teaching profession.
The Ministry appealed to the public to assist with credible information that could lead to the teacher’s arrest and reiterated that indiscipline in schools undermines teaching and learning, weakens public confidence in educational institutions, and threatens efforts to create safe learning environments.
It also announced plans to convene a National Dialogue on discipline in schools, bringing together key stakeholders to develop practical and sustainable measures to address rising cases of indiscipline across Ghana’s educational institutions.
