Ghana’s Black Maidens wasted little time announcing their presence at the WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup, cruising to a 4-0 victory over Burkina Faso in their opening match.
Captain Seidatu Wahab set the tone as early as the sixth minute, confidently converting a penalty to give Ghana the lead.
The early goal appeared to settle the Black Maidens, who grew in confidence and dictated the flow of the game. Ghana maintained control and continued to threaten the Burkina Faso defence as the first half progressed.
Their pressure paid off again deep into stoppage time, with Gloria Ameaa finding the back of the net in the third minute of added time to give Ghana a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break.
The Black Maidens returned from the interval with the same attacking intent and continued to trouble their opponents.
Benedicta Danso extended Ghana’s advantage in the 73rd minute before Hajara Adams added a fourth in the 84th minute to complete a convincing opening-day victory.
The emphatic result gives Ghana an ideal start to the competition, with the Black Maidens combining early attacking efficiency with a controlled display to secure all three points.
They will now look to build on the performance as their WAFU-B campaign continues.
