The Tema Traditional Council has announced the commencement of its annual ban on drumming and noise-making within its jurisdiction.
The ban, which takes effect from Friday, 25th April to Saturday, 17th May 2025, comes with specific guidelines aimed at maintaining peace, harmony, and national security within the metropolis.
Speaking in an interview on Plan B FM’s Ebaanosen, hosted by Ohene Kinnah, the spokesperson for the Traditional Council, Nii Amarh Somponu II, stated that during the ban period, churches are expected to conduct their activities within their premises and refrain from using musical instruments.
The use of loudspeakers outside the premises of churches, mosques, and pubs is prohibited. Roadside evangelists are also required to cease their activities during this period.
Religious bodies and traditional authorities are urged to show mutual respect and restrain their followers from making derogatory or inflammatory remarks about each other’s beliefs and practices.
Additional guidelines issued by the Tema Traditional Council (TTC) include a ban on funeral rites and related activities.
Only an identifiable task force—comprising members of the Traditional Council wearing official tags—is authorized to enforce the ban. No other individual or group should attempt to enforce noise abatement within the metropolis.
“By this notice, we entreat all persons, towns, and villages within the Tema Traditional Area to cooperate and comply with the directive during this period,” he said.
