Arrest scrap dealers to deter those engaged in stealing transformers – Kofi Capito

Arrest scrap dealers to deter those engaged in stealing transformers – Kofi Capito
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Consumer Protection Agency, Mr. Kofi Owusu-Hene popularly known as Kofi Capito says scrap dealers should be arrested and prosecuted to serve as deterrent to people who steal transformers.

Mr. Kofi Owusu-Hene’s comments come on the back of recent increase in transformer theft cases in Afienya and Prampram District and the loss of Gh¢1.3 million by the Electricity Company of Ghana as a result of nineteen of its transformers being stolen in Tema region alone in 2022.

Speaking on the Breakfast Show on GTV, he alleged that Ghanaians who deal in the business of transformers are the people who buy the stolen transformers from the thieves.

Mr. Owusu-Hene suggested a heavy monitoring and investigation of scrap dealers, so as to get to the bottom of the matter.

“These boys that are going around looking for scraps, they are the people stealing it” he said. He added that the ordinary and average Ghanaian would not want to get dirty, so there is no way they will indulge in transformer theft.
