ADR Expert Warns: ”Marriage is a Risk with No Exit Clause”

ADR Expert Warns: ”Marriage is a Risk with No Exit Clause”

Mary Bright Abelenma Coffie, a fashion designer, youth counsellor, and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) expert, has cautioned that marriage is a risk with no exit clause.

In a candid interview with Nana Asabea on Plan B FM’s Nyansapɔ Fie programme, Coffie, affectionately known as Auntie May, stressed the need for caution when entering matrimony.

“Sometimes, it’s better to acknowledge a marriage won’t work and move on rather than prolonging distress,” she advised. “Prioritising emotional well-being and recognising when a relationship is unsustainable can be crucial for personal growth and happiness.”

Coffie also highlighted the significant risks involved in marriage, noting, “Marriage involves substantial emotional, financial, and social risks. Once committed, there’s often no turning back without substantial consequences. Partners must navigate challenges together, requiring trust, communication, and compromise to build a strong and lasting relationship.”

Meanwhile, Prophet Isaac Asante, Head Pastor of Rema Prayer Ministry, offered a complementary perspective on risk-taking in marriage. According to him, willingness to try new things, courage, and a fearlessness of failure are indicative of risk-taking, which is essential for both partners in a marriage.

However, he cautioned that some individuals may exploit the weaknesses that come with taking risks. “The value of love is equal to the value of hate,” he concluded, “so people must be careful.”
