Abu Trica extradited to US

Court grants Abu Trica GH¢30m bail

Ghanaian national Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has been extradited to the United States to face charges related to an alleged $8 million romance scam case, according to information gathered by Citi News.

Sources familiar with the story revealed that Abu Trica was flown out of Ghana on Thursday, July 9, aboard Delta Airlines flight DL 157.

His extradition follows a July 2 decision by the High Court in Accra ordering that he be surrendered to US authorities to face allegations of involvement in a romance fraud scheme.

Abu Trica’s lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, had earlier disclosed that his client had reportedly been taken to the Police Hospital in Accra and raised concerns over his inability to access him before the extradition.

Barker-Vormawor said he had been unable to locate or meet Abu Trica ahead of the process, raising questions about whether proper legal access had been provided.

Abu Trica who had been in custody since December 2025, had earlier secured bail from the Accra High Court in the sum of GH¢30 million with two justified sureties after spending several months in detention.

However, the court later granted the extradition request, paving the way for his transfer to the United States, where he is expected to face legal proceedings over the alleged fraud case.
