The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to the construction of the Volivo Bridge over the Volta River, with actual construction expected to begin early next year.
The announcement follows the opening of a fresh bidding process earlier today as part of procurement arrangements for the major infrastructure project.
Speaking on the project, Mr. Agbodza said an evaluation team had been constituted to assess the bids submitted, adding that the evaluation process was expected to be completed within seven days.
He expressed confidence that a suitable contractor would be selected to undertake the project, with the government pledging the necessary support to ensure its commencement.
The Minister described the bridge as an important symbol of the cordial relationship between Ghana and Japan, which are partnering to deliver the project.
“We must build this bridge as one of the most concrete pieces of evidence of cordial and progressive relationship between the people of Ghana and Japan,” he stated.
When completed, the Volivo Bridge is expected to improve connectivity between communities on both sides of the Volta River, ease the movement of people and goods, facilitate trade and enhance access to essential services.
The project is also expected to stimulate economic activities in surrounding communities by improving transportation and creating better opportunities for commerce.
