More than 60,000 teachers across the country have successfully completed this year’s three-day Teacher Promotion Aptitude Test, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced.
According to the Service, monitoring officers reported a generally smooth and incident-free exercise at all examination centres nationwide.
In a statement issued by Daniel Fenyi of GES Headquarters, the exercise was described as particularly significant because it marks a major step towards implementing the policy to decouple teachers’ professional ranks from administrative positions.
The policy is expected to expand career progression opportunities for teachers, ensuring that qualified staff are not held back by the limited availability of positions within the administrative structure.
Under the new arrangement, GES projects a 1,500 per cent increase in the number of teachers attaining the rank of Director II, while those attaining Director I are expected to increase by 340 per cent.
The Service also anticipates substantial increases in the number of teachers advancing through other professional ranks, including Principal Superintendent (PS), Assistant Director II (ADII), Assistant Director I (ADI) and Deputy Director (DD).
GES says the policy is intended to recognise teachers’ professional competence, experience and years of service while improving staff morale and motivation.
The Service wished all participants success in the promotion exercise and commended the officers, invigilators, administrators and other stakeholders who contributed to its smooth organisation.
