Free SHS food suppliers threaten five-day demonstration over unpaid debts

Food Shortage In SHS: Affected Schools Expected To Receive Full Supplies By Tuesday – MOE
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Controlled Food Suppliers Association (CFSA) has announced plans to embark on a five-day peaceful demonstration at the premises of the Ghana Commodity Exchange (GCX) over outstanding payments for food items supplied under the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme in 2024.

The demonstration, scheduled for Monday, November 16, to Friday, November 20, 2026, is intended to compel the Ghana Commodity Exchange to settle monies owed to members of the association.

In a notice dated October 30, 2026, and addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Commodity Exchange, the association said the prolonged delay in payment, despite repeated follow-ups, had left its members with no option but to resort to a demonstration.

The suppliers also expressed dissatisfaction with what they described as GCX’s failure to respond to a two-week notice served on October 7, 2026, which expired on October 21.

According to the association, its leadership has consistently acted in good faith in pursuing the outstanding payments legitimately owed to members for food supplies made in 2024.

The planned protest will take place at the GCX premises on Tumu Avenue, Kanda, in Accra.

The association further disclosed that it had notified the Ghana Police Service of the planned demonstration in accordance with the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491).
