The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has commended the United States Embassy in Accra for expediting visa processing for the mother and cousin of 15-year-old Javits Frimpong, paving the way for their travel to the United States.
In a Facebook post, Mr Ablakwa said the Embassy facilitated same-day visa processing for Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi, the mother of the deceased teenager, and her niece on Monday.
He expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani for their special intervention in facilitating the process.
According to the Foreign Affairs Minister, the two were expected to depart Ghana for the United States within hours of his announcement.
Mr Ablakwa further disclosed that the Government of Ghana remained in close communication with US authorities regarding the status of investigations into the circumstances surrounding Javis Frimpong’s death.
He assured the family that the government would continue to pursue justice, stressing that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ghana’s diplomatic missions would remain committed to protecting the interests of Ghanaians abroad.
“An attack on a Ghanaian anywhere in the world is an attack on all of us,” he stated.
The Minister described the death of the 15-year-old as heartbreaking, adding that no parent deserved to lose a child under such circumstances.
He assured Javits Frimpong’s parents and family of the government’s continued support, thoughts and prayers as they seek justice.
