The Tema Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) Commander, DSP Amoah Richard Nyarko, says the introduction of the TraffiTech-GH automated traffic enforcement system is expected to help reduce road accidents and promote discipline among motorists.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s EBAANOSEN, hosted by Ohene Kinnah, DSP Nyarko explained that the initiative officially commenced on November 1, 2026, instead of the initially scheduled October 1 date, to allow for extensive public education.
He said the decision to delay the rollout was partly informed by the increasing rate of road accidents and the need to adequately sensitise motorists about the new enforcement system.
According to him, the initiative will introduce additional road safety measures through the deployment of cameras, sensors and other technological equipment to monitor motorists and identify traffic violations.
He described the surveillance technology as “invisible eyes”, which will monitor drivers on the roads and help authorities detect and penalise those who flout traffic regulations.
DSP Nyarko, however, assured motorists who comply with road traffic regulations that they have nothing to fear, emphasising that the system is designed to encourage responsible driving rather than intimidate road users.
He identified over-speeding as one of the major causes of road accidents in Ghana, noting that the technology would monitor vehicle speeds and ensure motorists adhere to prescribed speed limits.
The Tema Regional MTTD Commander further disclosed that the initiative had already contributed to a reduction in road accidents since its launch.
He stressed that TraffiTech-GH is primarily intended to promote road discipline, ensure compliance with traffic regulations and ultimately protect lives and property.
He urged motorists to embrace the initiative and make road safety a priority in their daily activities.
