Hearts of Oak’s three-match winning streak came to an end on Sunday after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Debibi United in their Ghana Premier League Matchday Nine encounter at the Debibi Presby Park.
Sarkodie Demetrous scored the only goal of the game in the 51st minute, finishing off a well-coordinated attacking move by slotting the ball past Hearts goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.
The Phobians went into the encounter hoping to extend their winning run and maintain their position at the top of the league standings. However, they struggled to impose themselves against a determined Debibi United side.
Despite enjoying some competitive spells, Hearts failed to dominate the midfield, with the hosts proving more effective in that department.
The visitors also struggled to create clear-cut scoring opportunities and were unable to find an equaliser after conceding in the second half.
For Debibi United, the victory served as a timely response to their recent defeat to Bechem United, while the three points lifted them out of the relegation zone.
The defeat sees Hearts of Oak drop to third place on the league table, ending their hopes of extending their impressive run of form.
Debibi United will next face Dreams FC, while Hearts of Oak will look to bounce back when they take on Heart of Lions.
