The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed all Regional Directors of Education to ensure the timely disbursement of capitation grants for the first term of the 2026/2027 academic year to basic schools by Friday, October 30, 2026.
In a letter dated October 16, 2026, and signed by Deputy Director-General in charge of Quality and Access, Munawaru Issahaque, on behalf of the Director-General, the Service said the funds had been transferred to the accounts of the various District Education Directorates for onward disbursement to schools.
The letter, with reference number GES/DD-G/Q & A/26/434, said the transfers to the district accounts included the Sports and Culture component for district offices, while the corresponding regional components had been sent to designated accounts of the Regional Education Offices.
The GES has consequently tasked Regional Directors to ensure that the funds reach the schools by the October 30 deadline to enable heads of basic schools to operate without disruptions.
Management further disclosed that a team from the GES Headquarters would visit the regions for monitoring during the first week of November 2026.
The Regional Directors have therefore been urged to facilitate the immediate transfer of the funds ahead of the monitoring exercise.
The capitation grant is intended to support the operations of basic schools and help them meet essential administrative and educational needs.
