The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) is investigating the cause of a fire outbreak involving a transformer at its Mallam Substation in Accra.

The incident occurred at 2:36 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, disrupting electricity supply to parts of Accra served by the substation.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, GRIDCo said the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded to the incident and successfully contained and extinguished the fire.

The company indicated that power supply had been restored to some of the affected areas, while efforts were ongoing to restore electricity to the remaining areas as quickly as possible.

GRIDCo further disclosed that steps had been initiated to replace the affected transformer, although investigations into the cause of the fire were still underway.

The power transmission company apologised to affected customers and stakeholders for the inconvenience caused and thanked them for their patience and understanding.

The incident has temporarily affected electricity supply in parts of the capital as GRIDCo works to restore normal service.
