Majority Chief Whip and South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, says two attempts to secure bail for the embattled Asante Akyem North MP, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, have been unsuccessful in the Netherlands.
Mr Frimpong remains in custody in Amsterdam as he awaits an extradition hearing scheduled for November 18, 2026.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, September 23, Mr Dafeamekpor disclosed that the legal team had filed two bail applications—one substantive application and an appeal—but both were rejected.
He said the MP remains in the custody of the Dutch authorities while preparations are being made for the substantive extradition hearing.
“The extradition hearing will take place on the 18th of November 2026. He’s still in custody. He’s still in the hands of the Dutch government in Amsterdam,” Mr Dafeamekpor said.
Mr Frimpong was arrested at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam in May 2026 after travelling from Ghana.
His arrest was reportedly linked to allegations involving romance scams and money laundering.
Following the arrest, Parliament confirmed his detention and indicated that it was engaging Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague for further information.
Mr Dafeamekpor said Parliament is now focused on preparing for the November hearing while also working on a statement concerning the MP’s status.
He further urged the media to rely on verified information regarding the case, noting that the legal team was still obtaining official documents relating to Mr Frimpong’s arrest and detention.
