The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has expressed condolences to the family of a young girl who tragically lost her life in a fire incident at Cantonments in Accra.
In a statement dated September 23, 2026, the Ministry said it shares in the grief of the bereaved family and all those affected by the incident.
The Ministry also urged parents, guardians and caregivers to take practical steps to protect children from hazards at home and in other environments.
It advised households to keep matches, lighters and other sources of fire out of children’s reach, ensure that electrical appliances and installations are safe, and avoid situations where young children may be left unattended.
The Ministry further encouraged families to observe basic fire safety measures, establish emergency evacuation arrangements and, where age-appropriate, teach children what to do during emergencies.
The MoGCSP noted that the Ghana National Fire Service is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and urged that the investigation be concluded to establish the cause of the fire.
According to the Ministry, the findings will provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and help inform measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
It stressed that child protection remains a shared responsibility involving families, caregivers, communities and relevant institutions.
The Ministry extended its heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family and wished them strength and comfort as they come to terms with the loss.
