The Ghana Education Service (GES) has stepped up unannounced visits to schools across the country as part of efforts to monitor the welfare of fresh students and assess the implementation of its policies at the school level.
During one of the visits, Deputy Director-General in charge of Management Services, Professor Smile Gavua Dzisi, representing the Director-General, interacted with newly admitted students, parents and staff to assess how the students were settling into their new school environments.
Prof. Dzisi encouraged the students to take their studies seriously, remain disciplined and make their parents proud.
She also engaged Heads of schools and other staff, reiterating a directive from GES Management that no student should be turned away because of trunks and chop boxes.
According to her, students must not be denied access to education because of such items, stressing that Heads who disregard the directive and are reported to Management will face the appropriate sanctions.
The GES said the unannounced visits will continue throughout the academic year and are intended to provide Management with real-time information on developments and challenges confronting schools.
The engagements will also allow the Service to assess how its policies and directives are being implemented, listen directly to concerns from students and staff, and provide guidance where necessary.
GES says the initiative forms part of its broader commitment to ensuring that every student is welcomed into a safe, supportive and conducive learning environment without administrative practices becoming barriers to accessing education.
