President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of the US$1.3 billion Sentuo Airport Garden City, a major mixed-use development planned near the Accra International Airport.
The project is expected to combine residential, hospitality, commercial, healthcare and leisure facilities, with plans for about 582 premium apartments, a 500-room hotel and a 2,500-capacity conference facility.
It will also feature healthcare facilities, a shopping mall, gardens and extensive parking facilities, alongside other commercial and leisure amenities.
At the sod-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, President Mahama said the development would contribute to efforts to position Accra as a competitive destination for business, tourism and urban living.
He described the project as an indication of Ghana’s readiness to attract large-scale investment and partnerships.
“Our message to the world is clear: Ghana is open for investment. Ghana is ready for partnership. Ghana is building for the future,” he said.
President Mahama commended the Sentuo Group and its Executive Chairman, Xu Ningquan, for initiating the project and urged the developers to ensure that Ghanaian businesses and professionals benefit from its implementation.
He said the scale of the development presented opportunities across several sectors, including construction, hospitality, transportation, events and retail.
According to the President, engineers, artisans and technicians could benefit from construction-related jobs, while the hotel and conference components could create opportunities for hospitality workers, suppliers, transport operators, event organisers and other local businesses.
President Mahama also linked the project to his government’s Reset agenda and 24-Hour Economy ambition, arguing that sectors such as aviation, hospitality and events could generate economic activity beyond conventional working hours when supported by reliable services and professional management.
He further encouraged Ghanaians in the diaspora and international investors to explore opportunities in Ghana’s property and tourism sectors.
The President said government would assess the impact of major investments not only by their financial value but also by the number of jobs created, contracts awarded to Ghanaian companies, skills developed and facilities ultimately delivered for public use.
The Sentuo Airport Garden City project follows another major development launched at the airport in recent weeks—a seven-storey facility featuring 2,030 parking bays, two hotels and commercial facilities, which is being financed through the Ghana Airports Company Limited’s own balance sheet.
President Mahama said the government would continue to support investments that expand economic opportunities and contribute to the transformation of Accra.
“Ghana is open. Accra is rising. Let us build that future together,” he said.
