A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Thomas Ayertey, has criticised the record of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in government, arguing that the party cannot compare its performance with what he described as the achievements of the NDC.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s EBAANOSEN, hosted by Ohene Kinnah, Mr. Ayertey highlighted what he said were major development projects undertaken under former President John Dramani Mahama, particularly in education, healthcare and infrastructure.
He cited the construction of more than 123 Senior High Schools under the Mahama administration, mentioning projects in areas including Haatso. According to him, the projects reflected the NDC’s efforts to expand access to education and other essential public services.
Mr. Ayertey also pointed to the construction of hospitals under the former Mahama administration, citing them as examples of what he described as the NDC’s contribution to national development.
He criticised the NPP’s approach to governance, accusing the party of relying on what he described as misinformation and unfulfilled promises.
Mr. Ayertey also questioned the political messaging of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, arguing that his focus had shifted from digitalisation to economic issues without delivering the results he had promised.
On allegations of corruption, Mr. Ayertey accused the previous NPP administration of corruption and said the current Mahama administration had referred issues allegedly overlooked by the previous government to the appropriate authorities for investigation.
He argued that such actions demonstrated what he described as the current administration’s commitment to accountability and good governance.
Mr. Ayertey further criticised the NPP’s campaign strategy, claiming that the party lacked a clear message because, in his view, it had limited achievements to showcase from its time in office.
“NPP doesn’t have any campaign message,” he said.
He cited the Accra-Nsawam road project as another example of what he described as the NPP’s failure to deliver on major infrastructure projects.
According to Mr. Ayertey, the fact that the Mahama administration is currently undertaking work on the road demonstrates that the NPP had, in his words, “lost the grounds.”
His comments come amid continued political debate over the records of the NDC and NPP and their respective approaches to governance and development.
