A 22-year-old man has reportedly been lynched by angry youth at Offinso Abrukyire in the Ashanti Region after he allegedly murdered a Pentecost deacon and farmer.
The suspect, identified only as Awineme, is alleged to have ambushed and killed Osei Kwabena, a Pentecost deacon and caretaker farmer for the chief, on Saturday, September 12, 2026, according to a report by 3news.com.
According to the Assemblyman for the Samproso Electoral Area in the Offinso Municipality, Sumaila Zakari, the suspect returned home after the alleged incident and attacked the chief.
Zakari said Awineme arrived home covered in blood and told the chief that he had killed Osei Kwabena.
“He came home drenched in blood. He announced that he had killed Osei Kwabena, so when the chief tried to understand the situation, he started attacking him,” he said.
The chief, Nana Osei Bonsu, reportedly sustained severe machete wounds and is currently receiving treatment at St Patrick Hospital in Offinso.
Zakari said the injuries were so severe that doctors might have to amputate one of the chief’s hands.
He added that the suspect later attempted to attack another person, prompting some residents to intervene.
“All attempts to stop him proved futile, so they used lethal means, with some resorting to beating him with sticks,” Zakari said.
The suspect reportedly died from injuries sustained during the mob attack.
The bodies of the two deceased persons have been deposited at the morgue, while the police have commenced investigations into the incident.
