Mahama orders GHS2 reduction in diesel price to ease cost of living

Mahama orders GHS2 reduction in diesel price to ease cost of living
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

President John Dramani Mahama has directed a temporary reduction of GHS2.00 per litre in the regulatory margin on diesel as part of measures to cushion consumers and ease the burden of rising living costs.

The directive, announced by the Presidency on Monday, August 3, 2026, follows a Cabinet decision and builds on the government’s fuel price intervention introduced in April this year.

According to the statement, the reduction will take effect from Tuesday, August 4, 2026, and will remain in force for one month, unless reviewed earlier by the government.

The Presidency said the intervention is aimed at cushioning consumers, preventing transport fare increases, containing inflationary pressures and reducing the impact of higher fuel prices on the cost of living.

Government further indicated that it will continue to closely monitor developments in the international energy market and implement additional policy measures where necessary to protect the interests of Ghanaians and sustain the country’s economic recovery.
