HSWU KATH branch demands reversal of CEO’s suspension, threatens further action

MoH summons KATH CEO over decision to halt new emergency admissions

The Health Services Workers’ Union (HSWU) at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has called for the immediate reversal of the suspension of the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, describing the decision as an overreach that has worsened an already difficult situation at the facility.

In a statement dated June 6, 2026, and signed by the branch chairman, Douglas Kusi, and secretary, Essieh Francis, the union expressed grave concern over the recent developments at the hospital, including directives for the KATH Board to investigate the hospital’s Public Relations Officer.

According to the union, the pressing issue requiring urgent attention is the persistent congestion at the Accident and Emergency Centre, which continues to exert enormous pressure on healthcare delivery and patient care.

HSWU argued that the suspension of the CEO and the directive to investigate the PRO have sidelined the hospital’s more critical challenges.

The union is demanding:

  • An immediate review and reversal of the CEO’s suspension.
  • The withdrawal of any directive requiring the KATH Board to investigate the Public Relations Officer in relation to the matter.
  • Urgent action to address congestion at the Accident and Emergency Centre.

The union further declared its unwavering support for both the CEO and the PRO and warned that members of the KATH branch are prepared to take further action should their demands not be met.

HSWU reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, due process, and the best interests of healthcare delivery at KATH.
