A man has died after being electrocuted during Monday’s rains in the Ga East Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has confirmed.

The Greater Accra Regional Director of NADMO, Dennis Nartey Ajannor, said the incident occurred when the victim sought shelter near a container that had been inadvertently electrified.

According to him, the man died on the spot as a result of the electrocution.

“We recorded one casualty as a result of the person seeking shelter from a container which unfortunately had been electrocuted. So he passed,” he stated.

Mr Ajannor said the identity of the deceased is yet to be established, but the victim is believed to be between 35 and 40 years old.

He added that the body has since been deposited at a mortuary under the Ga East Municipal Assembly.

The incident comes as NADMO continues nationwide emergency response operations following heavy rains that have triggered flooding in parts of Accra and other regions.

The organisation has activated emergency operation centres across the country, with response teams on standby in flood-prone communities to support evacuation efforts and provide relief.

NADMO says its decentralised system enables rapid response once reports are received as authorities intensify efforts to manage the impact of the rainy season.
