Improper parking of container trucks causes heavy traffic on Tema–Accra beach road — Sammy Darkwa

Improper parking of container trucks causes heavy traffic on Tema–Accra beach road — Sammy Darkwa

A communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Darkwa, has raised concerns over the improper parking of long container trucks along the Tema–Accra Beach Road, particularly the stretch from COCOBOD to MPS.

He said the practice continues to cause severe traffic congestion for commuters who rely on the route daily, making travel between Tema and Accra increasingly difficult and frustrating for motorists and passengers.

Speaking on Nkosuo Nsem on Plan B FM, hosted by Kofi Sekyi, Sammy Darkwa explained that the Beach Road is one of the two major routes linking Tema to Accra, alongside the Tema Motorway. He noted that the constant presence of heavy-duty container trucks parked along the roadside significantly reduces available driving space, worsening traffic flow, especially during peak hours.

He further stressed that the situation is a major inconvenience to road users and also raises safety concerns, including an increased risk of accidents along the busy stretch.

Sammy Darkwa therefore called on relevant authorities, including road safety and city management agencies, to take immediate steps to enforce proper parking regulations and ensure that container trucks do not obstruct traffic on the corridor.

He also appealed for long-term measures to ease congestion along the Tema–Accra route and improve overall transportation efficiency for commuters.
