The Ghana Education Service (GES) has instructed Heads of Senior High Schools and Senior High Technical Schools to permit students who wish to take part in the Eid-ul-Adha celebrations on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, to do so.

The directive was contained in a letter dated May 25, 2026, and signed by the Deputy Director-General (Q&A), Munawaru Issahaque (PhD), on behalf of the Director-General of GES.

GES noted that Wednesday, May 27, has been declared a public holiday in observance of Eid-ul-Adha.

“Accordingly, Heads of Schools are requested to grant permission to students who may wish to observe the Eid festivities to do so, with the condition that they return to school by the close of the same day,” the letter stated.

The Service further instructed all Regional Directors of Education to circulate the information to Municipal and District Directors, as well as Heads of Schools, to ensure compliance.

The directive was also copied to the Chairman of the GES Council, the Director-General of GES, the Deputy Director-General (MS), and other senior officials at the GES headquarters in Accra.
