A member of the Communication Team of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tema West Constituency, James Tamakloe, has blamed the recent increase in fuel prices on what he describes as economic mismanagement and poor governance by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
Speaking on Nkosuo Nsem on Plan B FM hosted by Obidehye Kofi, Tamakloe expressed concern over the continuous rise in petroleum prices, warning that the development could worsen the economic burden on Ghanaians.
According to data from the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), petrol prices are expected to increase between 5.29% and 7.30%, pushing the price per litre to about GH¢15.42.
Diesel prices are also projected to rise by as much as 7.30%, with a litre expected to sell at approximately GH¢17.83. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is similarly anticipated to record a 3% increase, bringing the price per kilogramme to around GH¢17.10.
The projected increments are based on estimates involving oil marketing companies that purchase petroleum products on credit from bulk oil distributors.
James Tamakloe argued that the persistent depreciation of the Ghana cedi over the past few months has significantly contributed to the rising fuel prices. He further stated that the increases would inevitably affect transport fares and food prices, placing additional pressure on households and businesses across the country.
He warned that if urgent economic measures are not implemented, the situation could have dire consequences for the average Ghanaian.
