A Ghana Armed Forces escort convoy, which was protecting 140 civilians, came under attack on Monday morning in the Binduri area of the Upper East Region, resulting in the killing of three civilians from shots fired by the “unknown elements”.

The convoy was moving from Bawku towards Bolgatanga in the Upper East region.

The Ghana Armed Forces in a press statement issued Monday night, explained that the convoy was shot at several times, resulting in the death of the three civilians and injuring one person.

The civilians were being escorted by the military in the morning [April 27, 2026].

The convoy was reportedly ambushed and fired upon multiple times by the unknown assailants.

The military personnel accompanying the convoy returned fire and successfully repelled the attack, killing seven of the attackers in the process.

In the course of pursuing the fleeing assailants, the military personnel retrieved a G3 automatic rifle, two fully loaded magazines of 20 rounds each, and 176 additional rounds of ammunition from an escapee who went to hide in a mosque.

Ten suspects have since been arrested and are assisting security agencies with ongoing investigations into the incident.

The attack adds to growing security concerns in parts of the Upper East Region, particularly along the Bawku-Bolgatanga corridor, where tensions have persisted in recent times.
