Police in Kasoa have arrested a man who attempted to smuggle hacksaw blades to a remand prisoner in police cells.

The suspect, Mohammed Hamidu, 42, a herbalist, concealed two hacksaw blades in a loaf of bread and attempted to hand them over to Cephas Bubune Sisiawor, who is serving a remand term at the Kasoa Central Business District Police Station’s Cell.

According to the Central East Regional Police Command, the suspect, on April 14, 2026, around 8:00 pm, brought to the station six plastic bottles of carbonated drinks and a loaf of bread to be served to the remand prisoner.

A critical observation conducted on the food items, however, revealed two hacksaw blades carefully concealed in the loaf of bread, leading to Hamidu’s immediate arrest.

According to a statement issued by police, “preliminary estimations indicated that the remand prisoner had directed the suspect upon an earlier visit to collect the items from an individual he identified as Emmanuel near the Lucky Herbal Clinic at Kasoa”.

Emmanuel is, however, said to be at large and being sought after by police, while Mohammed Hamidu remains in custody.

Cephas Bubune Sisiawor, the remand prisoner, is serving a remand term for involvement in robbery and is believed to have requested the items to aid his escape from custody.
