Ghana to engage Burkina Faso over tomato export ban

Close down cement factories producing substandard products – Trade Minister authorises GSA
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Government of Ghana has announced plans to engage authorities in Burkina Faso following the West African nation’s recent decision to suspend the export of fresh tomatoes, effective March 16, 2026.

According to the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, discussions with Burkina Faso will aim to address the concerns behind the export ban and seek a mutually beneficial solution for both countries.

The government also reaffirmed its commitment to boosting local tomato production through its “Feed Ghana” and “Feed the Industry” programmes, designed to increase domestic supply and meet market demand.

Tomato traders have been urged to remain calm as the government works to secure an amicable resolution.
