Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has expressed Ghana’s interest in tapping into Belarus’ agricultural expertise to boost the country’s local production capacity.
The Minister made the remarks when he received his Belarusian counterpart, Maxim Ryzhenkov, for a bilateral meeting on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Ablakwa outlined two key reasons for Ghana’s interest in strengthening ties with Belarus. First, he said Ghana is seeking to improve agricultural output by leveraging the high-level expertise for which Belarus is known. Second, he emphasized the importance of building stronger people-to-people relations to enhance trade and tourism between the two countries.
“Ghana needs your agricultural expertise to boost our local agricultural sector,” the Minister stated.
He further stressed that Ghana is keen on strengthening political and economic cooperation and translating the goodwill between the two countries into tangible outcomes. He also called for discussions on visa facilitation to ease travel between Ghana and Belarus.
On his part, Mr. Ryzhenkov expressed Belarus’ readiness to partner with Ghana in the areas of trade, agriculture, industry, and technology.
He proposed several agreements aimed at strengthening legal and economic cooperation, including visa facilitation, customs cooperation, investment protection, and the establishment of a joint commission on trade and economic cooperation.
