Accra Hearts of Oak failed to capitalise on their Super Clash momentum as stubborn Berekum Chelsea secured a hard-fought goalless draw at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon — a result that may feel more like a win for the visitors than the hosts.
While the Phobians dominated possession and created the clearer openings, it was Chelsea’s defensive resilience that defined the contest.
Hearts goalkeeper Benjamin Asare was called into action early, producing a crucial save to prevent the visitors from taking a surprise lead. At the other end, Mohammed Seidu emerged as Chelsea’s defensive hero, clearing off the line to deny Hearts what looked a certain opener.
Chelsea shot-stopper Eric Ofori Antwi also rose to the occasion, pulling off a sharp reflex save to keep out Mawuli Wayo as the home side increased the pressure.
Despite their territorial dominance and superior shot count, Hearts lacked the cutting edge required to break down a disciplined Chelsea side. The second half followed a similar pattern — waves of Hearts attacks met by organised resistance and occasional counterattacks that kept the Phobians cautious.
The stalemate represents a missed opportunity for Hearts in the tightening title race. With league leaders Medeama also dropping points in their draw against Samartex, the Phobians could have significantly reduced the gap at the top.
For Berekum Chelsea, however, the point could prove vital. Sitting 15th and just three points from safety, the visitors showed grit and structure that may yet define their survival bid.
