Former Black Stars captain Andre Ayew has brushed aside suggestions that he could be nearing retirement, insisting he still feels strong and motivated to continue playing at the highest level.
The 36-year-old, who recently signed for Dutch Eredivisie side NAC Breda as a free agent after leaving French club Le Havre, says he is focused on the present and not contemplating the end of his career.
Speaking to ESPN, Ayew — Ghana’s most-capped player — stressed that he remains physically fit and mentally driven.
“I never thought about it because my body is good, I feel good. I live my life day to day, so I prepare myself every time to have a better tomorrow on the field and off the field,” he said.
“When the moment comes, your body will tell you,” he added.
Ayew last featured for the Black Stars during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. Since joining NAC Breda on a short-term deal until the end of the season, he has made six league appearances, starting once as he works his way back to full match sharpness.
His latest remarks suggest the veteran forward still believes he has more to offer both at club level and potentially on the international stage.
