The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced plans to venture into block making, kenkey production, poultry and crop farming as part of efforts to generate internal resources to support its logistics and welfare needs.

The initiative was disclosed by the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, during the 2025 General Headquarters End-of-Year West African Soldiers Social Activity (WASSA) held at Burma Camp on Friday, January 23.

According to the Chief of the Defence Staff, the move reflects a deliberate shift towards self-reliance amid growing operational and logistical demands.

“But your Excellency, ladies and gentlemen, we are not sitting aloof. On our own, as an Armed Force, we are leveraging on our goodwill, expertise, and strategic relationships to do more for ourselves,” he stated.

Lieutenant General Agyapong explained that the Armed Forces has begun collaborating with partners to manage several commercial activities internally, including food production and construction-related ventures.

“In this regard, we are in collaboration with partners and are now handling our travel and tour requirements. We are arranging same in the area of bakery, block making, kenkey production, poultry and crop farming,” he said.

He noted that the income from these initiatives would be reinvested into the military to address logistical challenges and improve troop welfare.

“All these will accrue some resources for the system to use to support our logistics challenges,” the Chief of the Defence Staff added.
