Former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accepted that it made mistakes while in government and must learn from them.
Speaking in an interview with TV3’s Beatrice Aidoo, Prof. Oquaye said the party is now doing internal reflection on its time in power under former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
“Basically, we accept certain problems, we accept that certain decisions were not right, we accept that certain actions and inactions should be done differently so that when we are in power again, we will better serve the people,” he said.
According to him, admitting faults is the first step toward improvement. He stressed that a party cannot grow if it refuses to acknowledge where it went wrong.
“And those internal admissions are very important,” he added. “If you don’t accept your wrong, you cannot improve upon your performance in the future.”
Prof. Oquaye explained that the process is not about blaming individuals but about correcting the system and the decisions that affected governance.
He said the party must be honest with itself if it wants to regain the trust of Ghanaians.
He noted that learning from past mistakes is necessary if the NPP hopes to govern better in the future.
