GPL: Kotoko defeat Young Apostles in Kumasi

GPL: Asante Kotoko drop vital points after frustrating goalless stalemate with Vision FC

Asante Kotoko secured a 2-1 victory over Young Apostles on Wednesday afternoon, ending a two-game winless spell in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors hosted the newly promoted side at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to clear their outstanding Week 6 fixture.

Kotoko controlled the first half and created a number of openings, but were unable to convert any of their chances before the break.

Six minutes into the second half, midfielder Hubert Gyau finally broke the deadlock with a powerful strike. The lead, however, lasted only three minutes. Young Apostles responded through Richmond Opoku, who headed home after a well-worked team move.

The game opened up from that point, with Kotoko pushing forward in search of a winner. Their persistence paid off deep into added time when captain Samba O’Neil converted a controversial penalty to seal an important win.

The result lifts Kotoko to fifth place on 19 points, two adrift of the top and with one outstanding match still to play.
